Eric Onesi Named to Virginia All-State Golf Team

NORFOLK, VA-- Old Dominion's Eric Onesi has been selected to the first team All-State squadAs selected by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association.

The University of Virginia's head men's golf coach Bowen Sargent has repeated as the Virginia Coach of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association. The 2010 first team All-State squad includes: Ben Kohles (Virginia), Will Collins (Virginia), Robert Karlsson (Liberty), Eric Onesi (Old Dominion) and Lanto Griffin (VCU).

Sargent's Cavaliers ranked 19th nationally and capped off its finest showing at the NCAAChampionships with an 11th place finish. Virginia has received an NCAA bid each of the past three years.

Virginia sophomore Ben Kohles (Cary, NC.), the ACC Co-Player of the Year was named honorable mention All-America by Golfweek and 2010 Ping All America by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Kohles led the Cavaliers with a 71.32 stroke average this year.Will Collins (Salisbury, NC.) was second on the team with a 72.26 stroke average, finished 25th at the NCAA National Championships, and second at the ACC Championships.He was named to the ACC All-Academic team and both Kohles and Collins were named to the All-ACC golf squad.

VCU's senior Lanto Griffin(Blacksburg, Va.) led the way for the Rams with a 72.97 stroke average after leading the Rams to the NCAA Regionals in Bremerton, WA. where he tied for fifth. Griffin was also an All-CAA first team selection.

Liberty's sophomore Robert Karlsson (Kalmar, Sweden) was named to the PING All-Region team as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America.Karlsson led the Flames with a 72.4 stroke average this past season, which culminated with the 2010 individual medalist honors at the Big South Championshipand capturing the Big South Golfer of the Year honors. He also competed in the NCAA New Haven Regional.

ODU's senior Eric Onesi earned All-CAA honors for the fourth straight year and finished second at theCAA Championships for the second straight year. The Bear, DE. native compiled a 72.9 season strokeaverage and was named to the CAA's 25th anniversary All-Time men's golf squad. Onesi won two tournament titles and had six top ten finishes.

The second team All-State consisted of Mikey Moyers and Marshall Bailey of Virginia Tech, Max Mckayof Liberty, Kyle Stough of Virginia and Vincent Nadeau of VCU.
