ATHENS, Ga. -- Lady Monarch junior Nadine Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) was eliminated from the 2010 NCAA Singles Championship today, 6-3, 6-1, in the opening round. The host Georgia Bulldog, #48 Nadja Gilchrist, defeated the 25th ranked Fahoum, ending her season at 37-6 overall.
After dropping the first four games, Fahoum finally broke Gilchrist's serve and the two would trade points in the next two games as Gilchrist went up 5-2. Nadine finally held serve in the eighth game to pull back within two, winning consecutive games for the first time in the match, but Gilchrist answered by wrapping up the first set, 6-3.
The host Bulldog would take control of the second set early and held on for the 6-1 victory to move on to the second round.
Fahoum, the 2010 CAA Co-Player of the Year, ends her singles season with a 37-6 mark overall, with all six losses coming to nationally ranked opponents.
