NORFOLK, Va. -- The September 18th football game featuring the Old Dominion Monarchs against national semi-finalist and future Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) rival William & Mary will air live on Comcast Mid-Atlantic as part of the CAA television package. The game time has been changed to 7:00 p.m.
"We are honored to be included in this conference television package this fall," said head coach Bobby Wilder. "This is a not only a great opportunity to showcase our great facility and fan atmosphere, but for our fans across the region who aren't able to be with us at the game to be able to watch us on television, William & Mary is a tremendous test for our young program, especially as we prepare to enter the CAA and the nation's toughest FCS conference in 2011."
In the first year of competition in 2009, the ODU Football Monarchs' offense finished third nationally in scoring offense averaging 35 points per contest, scoring 28 touchdowns in 39 red zone opportunities, and ranked 18th nationally in total offense averaging with just under 400 yards per game. The Monarchs were also second nationally in sacks allowed and ninth among all FCS schools in fewest turnovers on the year.
Additionally, punter Jonathan Plisco (Newport News, Va.) was named First Team All-American by the Associated Press, Second Team All-American by The Sports Network, and Honorable Mention All-American by College Sporting News and long snapper Dustin Phillips (Woodland, Calif.) was named an All-American by being named to College Sporting News' Fabulous Fifty Team.
Old Dominion, which ranked fifth nationally in FCS attendance, has a slate that features that also includes perennial top 25 member Cal-Poly, along with home dates with Jacksonville, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Savannah State, and VMI.
The Tribe, meanwhile, is coming off one of its best seasons in the program's history having advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the second time in the last six years, finishing the 2009 campaign with a mark 11-3 and ranking as high as third in the final national polls.
