NORFOLK, VA - The Old Dominion University campus will be alive with activities April 23 and 24 with three Monarchs teams in action, highlighted by the football squad's second annual spring game.
The baseball Monarchs will host CAA opponent Towson on Friday, April 23 at 7 p.m., in a "Flood the Bud" promotion to break the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex attendance record. All fans will be admitted for only $1 to the game, with prizes offered throughout the contest. ODU students will be admitted free with their I.D.
The Lady Monarch lacrosse team will host #9 James Madison, also at 7 p.m., at the Powhatan Sports Complex stadium, in a crucial CAA showdown. Admission to the lacrosse game is $5 with the proceeds benefiting the ODU Intercollegiate Foundation for Lacrosse. ODU students can still get in free with a valid ID.
Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium will be festive on Saturday, April 24 for the spring football game. The activities begin with gates opening at 11:30 a.m., and a Fun Zone for children including inflatables, face painting, tattoos, and photos opportunities for fans of all ages with Big Blue, the ODU mascot. The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a 2010 football schedule water bottle. A field goal contest for male and female fans and punting contest for children, and men and women will offer great prizes and special kicking tips from All-American kicker Jonathan Plisco and other members of the Monarchs special teams. Kickoff for the annual spring game is set for 1 p.m., followed by an autograph session with all the team members and coaches on the field. Additionally, fans will be entertained throughout the game by the ODU Marching Monarchs and cheer and dance squads.
For the adult Monarch fan, a hospitality area will be open outside of the stadium behind the Ainslie Football Complex from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m,, with food and adult beverages available for purchase. Hospitality will also be offered inside the stadium in the Charles Barker Field Pass Terrace and concessions will be available on the East side of the stadium. The baseball squad will host Towson in the second contest of the three game series at 4 p.m. on April 24 at the Bud, concluding the series on Sunday, April 25 at 1 p.m.
