PHILADELPIA, Pa. - Sophomore Lisa Bernardini continued her outstanding season, notching a career-high six goals, but Old Dominion dropped its Colonial Athletic Association opener, 17-10, at Drexel Friday afternoon.

Bernardini posted three goals in each half and added an assist to post her second highest point total of her career. The sophomore had eight points on five goals and three assists against Longwood earlier this season.

Old Dominion falls to 2-7 on the year and 0-1 in the CAA, while Drexel improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Drexel started the game fast, netting the first four goals within the first 11 minutes. Charlotte Wood's second goal of the afternoon put the Dragons up 4-0 at the 19:24 mark.

Old Dominion responded though, tallying the next three scores. Nicole Mahon scored off a feed from Rebecca Hartrum at the 17:53 mark and Hartrum registered a goal of her own of a Bernardini pass just 47 seconds later.

Bernardini ended the ODU run by causing a turnover at the midfield and then scoring her first of the day to cut the Drexel lead to 4-3 with just over 14 minutes remaining in the opening half.

The game of runs continued as DU got the next three goals, from three different players, to reestablish its four-goal lead (7-3). Bernardini scored the next two ODU goals to post a hat trick in the first half, but a late Drexel goal sent the Dragons into the intermission with an 8-5 lead.

Drexel started to pull away as the second half began, posting the first six scores of the period to go up 14-5.

ODU scored three straight and five of the next seven after the Drexel run, but the Lady Monarchs could get no closer than six goals the rest of the way.

Old Dominion now heads further north to take on CAA foe Hofstra on Sunday at 1 p.m.
