NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs (14-9, 3-3) suffered a 6-1 setback to the College of William & Mary in ODU's final match of the 2009-10 regular season. They will now prepare to host the 2010 CAA Tournament set to begin on April 15.
Marija Citic (Belgrade, Serbia) was celebrating her senior day in the match, suffering a 6-1, 6-1 loss at No. 6 singles and pairing with Juliana Pires at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 setback.
The lone win of the day for Old Dominion came from a familiar source, in 21st ranked Nadine Fahoum at No. 1 singles. She fell in the second set, 2-6, but bounced back for a 6-3 win in the third for the victory. She improves to 36-5 overall this season with a win over the CAA Player of the Week, Ragini Acharya.
Fahoum also paired with Diana Ivanova for a win at No. 1 doubles, but William & Mary would sweep the second and third positions to secure the doubles point. Ivanova stretched her singles opponent, Nina Vulovich, to a third set at No. 4 singles, as did rookie Juliana Pires at No. 5.
The Lady Monarchs conclude the season with a 14-9 mark overall and a .500 record in CAA play, going 3-3 against league opponents. The team will host the 2010 CAA Tournament starting April 15 at the Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of ODU.
