NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion women's lacrosse team dropped its second game to a top-five opponent in a five-day span as the Lady Monarchs fell to No. 3 North Carolina, 16-2, Sunday afternoon at the Powhatan Sports Complex.

Old Dominion, which wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a tough three-game stretch that began with a game Wednesday at No. 4 Virginia and culminated today against the Tar Heels, falls to 2-6 on the year.

North Carolina has now won four straight and improves to 10-1.

Sophomore's Lisa Bernardini and Rebecca Reymann netted ODU's only two goals on the afternoon. The Tar Heels were paced by Corey Donohoe's four goals and three assists. Becky Lynch and Kira Cannizzaro also posted three scores for UNC.

After scoring the games first three goals, UNC fouled an attacking Bernardini in the circle. The ODU sophomore took advantage and scored on her free-position opportunity to cut the Tar Heel lead to 3-1 midway through the first half.

The Tar Heels took command of the game from that point on though, controlling play in their offensive zone for much of the remaining minutes. UNC closed the opening half on a 7-0 run to lead 10-1 at the intermission.

North Carolina began the second half right where it left off, netting six consecutive goals before Reymann posted ODU's second goal.

Old Dominion will begin Colonial Athletic Association play on April 9th at Drexel. The game is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
