Towson Holds Off Monarchs, 4-3

NORFOLK, VA--Towson (14-28/8-10) defeated Old Dominion (17-27/5-10), 4-3 Sunday afternoon in a Colonial Athletic Association game at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.

The Monarchs took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Chris Buss and Josh Wright, which plated Edgar Hernandez and Jake McAloose.

Towson scored in the third on a leadoff solo homer from Kurt Wertz. The Tigers then tied the game in the fifth on a RBI single by Nick Natoli which scored Andrew Parker.

In the sixth inning, Wertz singled home Austin Harclerode and Steve Rice with two outs to give Towson the lead for good at 4-2.

ODU added a run in the eighth when Nate Hartman doubled home Josh Wright. The Monarchs threatened again in the ninth with two runners aboard, but could not score. ODU stranded 11 runners in the game.

Jake McAloose led ODU with three hits, while Donnie Corsner, Chris Buss and Josh Wright each had two hits. Michael Trionfo picked up the win for Towson and Nate Curd got the save. Cory Toth and Austin Wright pitched a combined three scoreless innings of relief for ODU.

The Monarchs break for exams until May 7th when they travel to Boston, MA. For a three-game CAA series against Northeastern.
