HOT SPRINGS, VA--ODU senior Eric Onesi shot 71 in the final round to finish second at the Colonial Athletic Association Men's golfChampionships. It was the second straight year he finished as the runner-up. As a team, ODU finished fourth with an 899 for 54 holes.
Onesi birdied two of his final three holes to finish one under on the back nine. His three day score of 217 was four strokes behindCAA Champion Justin Martinson of the University of Delaware. Onesi was also named to the CAA's first team All-Conference squad whichis the fourth time he has earned All-League honors.
Neil Henderson and Seth Norman tied for tenth with scores of 224.Both shot 73 today.
Towson won the team title with an 885 and was were followed by William & Mary, which earned second place with a team score of 896, and VCU,which finished third, with a score of 897. Old Dominion wrapped up the tournament with a score of 899 for fourth, and Georgia State carded 900 for fifth place.
Delaware's Martinson was also named the tournament Most Outstanding Player and joined Old Dominion's Eric Onesi,UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock, Georgia State's Alan Fowler and Towson's Nyasha Mauchaza and Chris Scialo on the All-Tournament team.
Martinson carded 69-72-72--213 (+3) at the championship on the Cascades Course. Onesi was runner-up with a score of 73-73-71--217 (+7), while Brock carded 74-74-71--219 (+9) for third place. Fowler (73-74-73--220), Mauchaza (72-73-75--220) and Scialo (71-76-73--220) completed the 54-hole tournament tied for fourth place shooing 10-over par.
