NORFOLK, Va. -- Punter Jonathan Plisco (Newport News, Va.) was named First Team All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) on Thursday.
Plisco adds to his already impressive list of post-season awards including three All-America distinctions. He was named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press, a Second Team All-American by The Sports Network, and earned Honorable Mention status by The College Sporting News.
Plisco finished the 2009 season averaging a nation-leading 44.84 yards per punt and consistently ranked among the top punters nationally in the FCS throughout the year. He made 57 punts with 18 going 50 yards more, 26 inside the opponent 20, and seven for a touchback. The left footer averaged over 50 yards per punt in games with Chowan and Savannah State and posted a career-high 76-yard punt in victory over Campbell.
The ODU Football Monarchs have just a little over a week left in its spring practice schedule.
This Saturday, ODU will host a FREE Youth Football Clinic for kids from the 5th-8th grade prior to the football Monarchs' second open scrimmage of the spring season at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
The spring season concludes with the annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 24th at 1:00 p.m. The activities begin with gates opening at 11:30 a.m., and a Fun Zone for children including inflatables, face painting, tattoos, and photos opportunities for fans of all ages with Big Blue, the ODU mascot. The first 500 fans into the stadium will receive a 2010 football schedule water bottle. A field goal contest for male and female fans and punting contest for children, and men and women will offer great prizes. Kickoff for the annual spring game is set for 1 p.m., followed by an autograph session with all the team members and coaches on the field. Additionally, fans will be entertained throughout the game by the ODU Marching Monarchs and cheer and dance squads.
