NORFOLK, Va. (April 15, 2010) - VCU senior Thibaut Charron (Sens, France) was chosen as the 2010 Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis Player of the Year by a committee of the league's head coaches.

Also earning top honors from the conference were William and Mary freshman Jamie Whiteford (Surrey, England) as CAA Rookie of the Year and William and Mary's Peter Daub as CAA Coach of the Year.

Charron is currently ranked 25th in the nation in singles after posting a 21-6 overall record, including a 17-4 mark in dual matches. He captured 10 of his final 12 matches, with seven of those victories coming over nationally ranked foes. The senior's most impressive performance was a 7-6, 6-4 triumph over 3rd ranked Sanam Singh of #1 Virginia on March 24. Charron is the first VCU player since 2006 to be named CAA Player of the Year.

Whiteford put together a 21-7 overall record in singles, including a 15-6 mark in dual matches. The freshman, who played mostly at No. 3 singles, closed the regular season by winning seven of his final eight matches. He also excelled in doubles, compiling a 12-2 record with partner Sebastien Vidal as the Tribe's top tandem. Whiteford is the first William and Mary player since 2005 to claim CAA Rookie of the Year accolades.

Daub guided William and Mary to an 18-9 overall record this season. The Tribe was 4-0 in conference action and earned the top seed in the CAA Championship for the first time. All nine W&M setbacks came to teams ranked among the top 60 in the nation and the Tribe posted three victories over ranked foes. The 18 wins are the third-most dual match victories in school history. The CAA Coach of the Year award is the third for Daub, who also received the honor in 1999 and 2001.

Joining Charron and Whiteford on the All-CAA singles first team were Old Dominion junior Tobias Fanselow, William and Mary senior Keziel Juneau, UNC Wilmington junior Michael Pereira and William and Mary junior Sebastien Vidal.

Three doubles teams received All-CAA first team honors as well. Making the squad were W&M's Juneau and Vidal, Delaware senior Austin Longacre and sophomore Andre Vorobyov and W&M's Vidal and Whiteford.

The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2010 CAA Men's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday morning at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the men's championship set for 10 a.m. on April 18.
