WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The ODU women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the CAA with a 5-2 win at UNC Wilmington on Friday, led by #18 Nadine Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) and rookie Juliana Pires (Porto Alegre, Brazil).
Fahoum bounced back after her first loss of the season to win a quick straight set victory at No. 1 singles. She defeated Kayla Schwenk, 6-0, 6-1. She also paired with Pires for the first time this year, earning a win at No. 1 doubles, 8-3.
Pires also broke a small losing streak in singles play with a hard-fought win at No. 5 singles. She was forced to a tiebreak in both sets, but pulled out the 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) win.
ODU would take the doubles point with a win at No. 2, as Irina Dementyeva and Joanna Dobrowolska paired up for the first time this season. Dobrowolska would also earn the win at No. 2 singles in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
ODU returns to action on Sunday, March 7 as they host UMBC.
