Rutgers Rallies To Beat ODU, 8-7

NORFOLK, VA--Jake McAloose and Joe Velleggia both hit three-run homers for Old Dominion, but Rutgers rallied with seven runs in the last two innings to win, 8-7 Sunday afternoon.

ODU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning as Edgar Hernandez doubled home Brandon Shelton,Then Joe Velleggia hit his fifth home run of the season and third of the series with two Hernandez andJake McAloose aboard.

With the score, 4-1 , ODU added three more in the seventh on a home run by senior third basemanJake McAloose. It was his second of the year and plated Kenny Stoneback, and Brandon Shelton.

In the eight inning, Rutgers got to within a run with five highlighted by a three-run double D.J. Anderson.The Scarlet Knights took the lead in the ninth on a two-run homer by Michael Lang.

Kenny Stoneback and Nathan Hartman led ODU with two hits each, while McAloose and Shelton bothScored twice.

ODU starting pitcher Chris Boggs went 7.1 innings with just three runs, two walksand six strikeouts.

Michael Lang, Pat Biserta, D.J. Anderson and Jaren Matthews each had three hits for Rutgers. JerryElsing came on in relief in the seventh to pick up the victory. Biserta also hit his ninth home run of theSeason for Rutgers, a solo shot in the third.

ODU returns to action Tuesday when they travel crosstown to take on Norfolk State at 4 p.m.
