OMAHA, Neb. - Although senior Chris Brown dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to Iowa's Ryan Morningstar of Iowa Saturday during the final day of the 2010 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, he earned All-American status with an eighth-place finish.

Brown, who became Old Dominion's all-time win's leader with a win over Maryland's Josh Asper Friday, ends his Monarch career with a 138-42 record.

In the seventh-place bout at the Qwest Center No. 7 Morningstar took a 2-0 lead in the second period with a nearfall. Morningstar lost his grip though and Brown escaped to cut the lead to 2-1.

Morningstar started the third period down and Brown rode him for nearly the entire period. With only 30 seconds left in the match and riding time in hand for Brown, Morningstar escaped to go up 3-1. Brown earned the riding time point, but Morningstar won the decision, 3-2.

Brown joins current teammate James Nicholson and former teammate and current student assistant coach Ryan Williams as the three ODU All-Americans in the last three years. In total, ODU wrestlers have earned All-American status on 24 different occasions. Before Nicholson in 2008, the Monarchs hadn't had an All-American since Nick Hall in 1995.
