Stetson Defeats ODU, 9-2

DELAND, FL-- Nathan Hartman (Orlando, Fl.) knocked in his 23rd RBI of the season, but Stetson defeated ODU Sunday, 9-2 to sweep the series.

ODU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Hartman, a rightfielder slammed his second homer of the season to lead off the inning.

Stetson rallied with three runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run homer by Ryan Lashley. The Hatters then scored a run in the third, two in the fourth andthree in the sixth which was capped by a two-run single by pinch hitter James Rasmussen.

ODu's final run came in the ninth as Brandon Shelton (Chesapeake, VA.) scored on Kenny Stonebacks (Colonial Heights, VA.) RBI groundout.

Stetson had 15 hits on the day led by Ryan Lashley with three, while Mark Jones,Nick Rickles, Kurt Schluter and Robert Crews each had two hits.

Stetson starter Kyle Maulbetsch pitched seven innings, allowing just three hitswith two walks and eight strikeouts for his second win of the year.

The Monarchs return to action on Tuesday at the University of Maryland for a 4 p.m.start, then host Richmond Wednesday at 6 p.m.
