RICHMOND, Va. -- The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) announced that ODU freshman Jackie Cook (Hinckley, Ohio) earned Co-Rookie of the Week honors this week, the first of the year for Old Dominion. Cook helped Old Dominion clinch the 2010 Regular Season Title this week with a pair of victories over William & Mary and VCU.
The Lady Monarch guard came off the bench to shoot 72.7% from the field this week, including 75% from long-range. Cook triggered a momentum-shifting run in the second half at VCU, knocking down a pair of trey's to put Old Dominion up six on the road.
She would also bury the most important basket of the game with under a minute to play, cutting to the basket after her defender lost sight of her and knocking down the eventual game-winning basket off an assist from Jessica Canady. The layup gave ODU a four-point lead with 53 seconds left that ODU would hold to seal the 2010 regular season title.
For the week, Cook had 20 points, three blocks and three assists, while also hauling in two rebounds and burying three 3-pointers. She shared the conference honor with Player of the Week Shante Evans, who helped position Hofstra for a shot at the #2 seed in next week's CAA Tournament.
Cook and the rest of the ODU Lady Monarchs will host Towson in the regular season finale this Wednesday, March 3 at 7:00 p.m.
