No. 13 ECU Hands ODU Their First Loss

GREENVILLE, NC-- Kyle Roller slammed a three-run homer in the five-run sixth inning tohelp lead 13th ranked East Carolina (2-2) to a 11-2 victory over Old Dominion (3-1).

The Monarchs were led by junior Nathan Hartman who hit his first homer of the season in the eighth inning, and has now knocked in 10 runs in four games thus far this season. ODU's first run came in

The second when Edgar Hernandez singled home Joe Velleggia in the second inning. giving the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.

ECU was leading, 4-1 when Roller's home run gave them a 7-1 lead. That was one ofthree Pirate homers on the day. John Wooten and Zach Wright also hit homers for ECU.

East Carolina had 16 hits led by Corey Thompson with three. Roller knocked in three runs, while Trent Whitehead, John Wooten and Zach Wright each knocked in two runs.

Edgar Hernandez, Austin Wright, Josh Wright, Velleggia and Hartman had the Monarchs five hits.

Junior righthander Zach Woods picked up the win for ECU as he scattered three hits through six innings of work.

The Monarchs return home for a four-game series this weekend against Bucknell. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m. at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex.
