NORFOLK, Va. - Junior Keyon Carter scored a team-high 14 points and classmate Frank Hassell pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds as the Old Dominion men's basketball team topped Hofstra, 57-46, Saturday afternoon at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. It was ODU's 100th win at theConstant Center. The Monarchs are now 100-21 overall at the Ted.

The Monarchs (12-5, 4-1 CAA) have now won 17 straight home games, which is the ninth longest home winning streak in the country. Hofstra falls to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in league play.

The Monarch defense, which is ranked in the top-10 nationally in points allowed per game (56.5), stepped up once again, holding the Pride to only 19 field goals and 35.8 percent shooting from the field.

ODU has now held seven opponents under 50 points this season.

The Monarchs raced out to an 8-0 advantage in the first 4:34 of the game and held the Pride scoreless until the 13:48 mark of the opening half. Hofstra did not register its first field goal until just over eight minutes into the game.

A Carter three-point field goal with 3:39 left in the first half would give ODU a 15 point lead (26-11), its biggest lead of the afternoon. Hofstra would rattle off seven consecutive points to cut into the Monarch lead, but a Carter three with only four seconds remaining would send ODU into the half with a 29-18 advantage.

The Pride came out of the intermission hot, tallying the first six points. They would get to within one point of ODU twice as Charles Jenkins hit for 14 of his game-high 18 points in the second half.

Old Dominion's poor free throw shooting (14-of-34) kept the Pride in the game, but during a critical 10 minute stretch in the second half, the Monarchs shot 9-of-10 from the line to regain a double-digit advantage.

The 34 free throw attempts are a season-high for ODU as their previous best was only 25 at Towson on January 4.

Senior Gerald Lee scored in double-figures (11) for the sixth straight game and for the 14th time this season. The Monarchs out-rebounded the Pride 45-41 and took advantage of 16 second chance points.

Old Dominion returns to the road on Wednesday, Jan. 13 to take on UNC Wilmington. Tip-time is set for 7 p.m. in Wilmington, N.C.
