EVANSTON, Ill. -- The 52nd Lady Monarchs (3-2) fell to the second ranked team in the nation, Northwestern University, 6-1, today, but ODU junior Nadine Fahoum again notched a huge win for her resume in the loss. The match came in the first qualifying round of the ITA National Indoor Team Championship.
Fahoum was facing 12th ranked Maria Mosolova in No. 1 singles. The two matched up earlier this season at the ITA National Indoor Championships in November and it was Mosolova who escaped with the three-set win. This time, Fahoum would get the better of the Wildcat star, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
Fahoum broke Mosolova's serve in the fifth game of the second set before holding in the sixth to earn the Lady Monarchs' only win.
ODU's Joanna Dobrowolska would pair with Fahoum for a doubles win at No. 1, defeating Elena Chernyakova and Lauren Lui, 8-6. She would also face off against #48 Samantha Murray in No. 2 singles action, but fell, 6-2, 6-2.
The Lady Monarchs only losses so far this season have been to the top ranked teams in the nation, losing to #1 Duke and today's setback to #2 Northwestern.
