NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's lacrosse was well represented on the 14-person Preseason All-CAA team as sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Geary and senior attack Ashley Kellogg were each named to the squad, the league announced Thursday.
Kellogg was a First Team All-CAA selection after a 2009 campaign that saw her scored a team-high 45 goals to go along with nine assists. Kellogg also led the Lady Monarchs with four game-winning goals.
Geary, who was selected as the 2009 CAA Rookie of the Year and named Second Team All-CAA, started all 16 games for ODU and posted an 11-5 mark on the year. A Second Team All-South Region selection, Geary recorded 159 saves and scooped 51 groundballs in 2009.
The CAA also announced its predicted order of finish for the upcoming season with the Lady Monarchs chosen sixth. Defending champion Towson was selected first with William & Mary picked second.
Old Dominion finished the 2009 season with an 11-5 overall record. The Lady Monarchs also won three of the four major Colonial Athletic Association awards. Kelly Kimener won the league's Player of the Year honors, while Stahl garnered Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career. Redshirt freshman Sarah Geary was named the CAA Rookie of the Year. ODU was ranked as high as No. 17 nationally during the 2009 season.
The Lady Monarchs will open the 2010 season on Saturday, March 6 at American University at 1 p.m.
