Arnason, Barrientos Named CAA Swimmers of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- Junior April Barrientos (Va. Beach, Va.) was named the CAA Women's Swimmer of the Week, while sophomore Arni Arnason (Msfellsbaer, Iceland) earned Co-CAA Men's Swimmer of the Week it was announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.

Barrientos swept the backstroke events last weekend against George Mason, Army and American. She began the meet clocking a time of 56.59 in the 100 back, the event she has won in back-to-back years in that pool at the CAA Championships. She later claimed the 200 back in 2:06.24.

Arnason led the Monarchs to a sweep over George Mason, Army and American with his four victories last weekend. He kicked off the meet by swimming the second leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Individually, the reigning CAA Swimmer of the Year swept the breast events and added a win in the 50 free. He took the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in 56.34 and 2:04.65, while rounding out the meet with a time of 21.00 in the 50 free. Arnason shares the weekly conference award with Drexel's Adrian Sabovici.

The Old Dominion men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, January 30th at the Navy Invitational.
