NORFOLK, VA--Old Dominion University's All-American senior midfielder Nane Joseph (Yaounde, Cameroon) has been selected as the fifth pick of the fourth round by Toronto FC in today's MLS Superdraft.
The 53rd overall pick was selected Second team All-American by the NSCAA and was named first team All-South Atlantic Region by the NSCAA. Joseph led the Monarchs in scoring with 15 points on six goals and three assists. He led ODU and the CAA with four game winning goals and was a perfect four-for-four on penalty kicks. Last month, he was also named first team All-CAA.
Joseph is the 11th overall and seventh Monarch to earn All-American honors since Alan Dawson became coach in 1997.
He joins former ODU standouts Carlos Mendes ('01) of the NY/NJ Red Bull and David Horst ('07) of the MLS champion Real Salt Lake. Horst was a first round selection in 2008.
