Joseph Named CAA Player of The Week

RICHMOND, VA. ODU senior Nane Joseph was named CAA Player of the Week.Joseph scored game-winning goal with 1:57 remaining to give Old Dominion a 1-0 victory at George Mason on Saturday to secure a berth in the CAA Tournament.

The pairings are set for the 2009 CAA Men's Soccer Championship, which will be held November 13 and 15 at UNCW Soccer Stadium in Wilmington, N.C.

In Friday's semifinals, second-seeded William and Mary (13-4-1, 8-2-1 in CAA) takes on #3 Northeastern (9-7-1, 8-2-1 in CAA) at 5 p.m., followed by top-seeded UNC Wilmington (12-2-4, 8-0-3 in CAA) against #4 Old Dominion (11-4-2, 6-3-2 in CAA) at 7:30 p.m. The CAA championship game is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.

UNCW captured the CAA regular-season title for the second year in a row and enters the tournament on an 11-match unbeaten streak after battling to a 0-0 double-overtime tie at Hofstra on Saturday. The Seahawks are the first team to go unbeaten in CAA regular-season action since Towson in 2006.

William & Mary extended its winning streak to four and its unbeaten streak to six with a 3-1 triumph over Drexel in Friday's regular-season finale. The Tribe finished tied for second with Northeastern, and won the tiebreaker based on its 2-1 double-overtime victory over the Huskies on Oct. 31.

After starting the season with a 1-5 mark, Northeastern caught fire in conference play. The Huskies went 6-1-1 over their final eight conference contests and closed the regular season by holding off VCU 3-2 on Saturday. Northeastern reached the CAA championship game a year ago.

Old Dominion grabbed the final spot in the tournament in thrilling fashion. The Monarchs earned a 1-0 road win at Old Dominion on Saturday when Nane Joseph scored the lone goal of the match with just 1:57 remaining in regulation. ODU finished in a tie for fourth place with Hofstra, but won the tiebreaker over the Pride based on a victory earlier this season against sixth-place James Madison.
