Newcomers Pace Lady Monarchs In Blue-White Scrimmage

NORFOLK, Va. -- A pair of newcomers led the way for the Lady Monarchs in the annual Old Dominion University Blue-White Scrimmage on Tuesday night. Sophomore transfer Tia Lewis (Poulan, Ga.) knocked down eight shots from the field and posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards while junior transfer Kquanise Byrd (St. Petersburg, Fla.) added 18 points in the game.

The ODU Blue squad scored 45 points in the contest, aided by 13 points and seven rebounds from Lewis in the second half. Byrd, in the first half, had nine points for the blue team and added three rebounds and an assist. Byrd went 5-for-5 from the free throw line and was 6-of-8 from the field in the game. Lewis was 8-of-12 from the field.

Returner Shadasia Green (Paterson, N.J.) also had a good game in the scrimmage, putting up 12 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Monarchs. Junior guard Jasmine Parker (Norfolk, Va.) added seven points and had six assists in the contest running the point for the ODU White squad.

Overall, the Lady Monarchs shot .422 from the field (35-83) and added a 60% shooting night from the charity stripe (15-25).

Parker's six assists led the way for ODU while rookie point guard Carolann Cloutier (Montreal, Quebec) added four helpers with three points, two steals and one rebound. Alena Voronina (Brisbane, Australia) had two blocks in the game for the game-high. Jackie Cook (Hinckley, Ohio) and Byrd tied for the team lead in steals with three apiece.

The Lady Monarchs return to action this Friday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. when they host Chowan College in an exhibition game at the Constant Center. ODU will have one more exhibition game before the regular season begins the following Friday on "Pack the House" night versus No. 2 Stanford. Tickets for the game against the Cardinal will be reduced to just $5 in an attempt to pack the house for the Lady Monarchs.
