ODU Homecoming 2009 Event Guide
Week Long Events:
Habitat House Community Service Project
The official community service project for Homecoming 2009: Building a Habitat for Humanity house. The build will break ground on Monday, November 2. Student organizations and students are encouraged to sign up and help make a difference. The building project will start on Killam Avenue and then move to 39th Street on Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Most Spirited Student Organization
The following information is provided to help student organizations understand the selection of the Most Spirited Student Organization Award. Participating organizations will be able to receive points for the following activities/events:
Homecoming Banner Contest
Village Window Painting Contest
Powder-Puff
Pride Day
Homecoming Parade
Point Distribution
First Place - 50
Second Place - 40
Third Place - 30
Fourth Place - 20
Participation - 10
Rules:
There will be a bonus of 50 points awarded to organizations that participate in all 5 activities/events.
Organizations receiving an award in an event will not receive additional participation points. (Ex. If you win in a category, you will receive 50 points only)
Tiebreaker will go to the organization with the most participation. If both organizations participated equally, then the group who scores higher in the parade will be the winner.

Monarchs Basketball vs. Barton College (Exhibition), Ted Constant Center, 7PM
Come cheer on our Monarch men's basketball team as they take on Barton College in their first home exhibition game. The men's basketball team is projected to be a powerhouse in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) this year, so get the exclusive look!

Hip-Hop Across Cultures, North Café of Webb Center, 8PM
This unique event will be one to remember, as the Office of Intercultural Relations will present a global display of hip-hop like never before. With dance performances from local dance crews, battles with b-boys and their martial art counter-part, and four different DJs spinning music from all over the world. This event will promote all the elements of hip-hop as they truly should be: emcee, b-boy, graffiti, and DJ.
Students will have the opportunity to make a graffiti shirt and enjoy performances by DJ BabeyDrew (Chris Brown's official DJ, from Z104), DJ Koko, DJ Jack of Spade and DJ Mista Nice. Free finger food will also be served.

Homecoming Court On-Line Voting Begins, 12:01AM

What better time than Homecoming to celebrate your PRIDE for ODU! Enjoy free food, fun activities and other festivities that highlight the spirit and pride of ODU. Winners of the Banner, Office Decorating, Lobby Decorating and Village Window Painting will be announced. Also, Rep Your Org* for a free 2009 Homecoming Shirt, while supplies last.
*Rep Your Org - Students wearing any ODU organization shirt to celebrate Pride Day will be eligible to receive a free homecoming shirt, while supplies last. The organizations that participate in `Rep Your Org' will receive points toward the "Most Spirited Student Organization" contest, so be sure to wear your organization gear and check in at the t-shirt table during Pride Day Celebration.

Loni has appeared in several movie and TV shows including Soul Plane, Chelsea Lately, Girlfriends, Wildest TV Commercial Moments, VH1's `I Love the `70s' and recently hosted a one hour special on Comedy Central. NPHC Battle of the Halls Step Show, North Café of Webb Center, 8PM
See the residents from the halls battle it out in a competitive step show. The competition will be followed by a "Unity Step" sponsored by the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC). Winners will be announced the same night and the winning group will have the opportunity to perform during half-time at the Lady Monarchs basketball game against Chowan on Friday, November 6.

Monarch Maniac Homecoming Pep Rally
Come out to the homecoming pep rally and get pumped for the homecoming football game. Expect a good time with live music and performances, free food, and fun activities along with possible appearances from the men's basketball team and head football coach Bobby Wilder. First 100 people will get official homecoming cups. There will also be a "Most Spirited Student Contest," so come ready to show your pride. Winners of the "Most Spirited Student Contest" will receive an ODU football jersey.
After the pep rally head to the Ted to support the Lady Monarchs as they take on Chowan University.

Comedy Show with Ben Bailey, Ted Constant Center (Big Blue Room), 9:30PM
All members of the ODU Community are invited to attend this comedy show, featuring ODU alum Ben Bailey, host of "Cash Cab" on the Discovery Channel. With over 10 years under his belt as a successful stand-up comedian, Bailey continues to perform comedy and has achieved international acclaim for both the show "Cash Cab" and performing stand-up comedy all over the world.

FOOTBALL PARKING: Lots open at 9 a.m., however we ask that you arrive at your lot between 9 - 10 a.m. or after 10:30 a.m. due to the Homecoming Parade.
Annual Homecoming Parade, Watch From 49th Street or Monarch Way, 10AM
Join the students, faculty, staff, alumni, our ODU Monarch Marching Band, and the community as we show our ODU Pride in the annual homecoming parade. All interested participants must register (Please see Packet Appendix C for form) and must attend a mandatory parade meeting TBD. In the event of rain, a `rain call' will be made on Friday, November 6, at 5:30 PM and all patrons will be notified about parade cancellation information.
Judging:
Judges table will be located on Monarch Way behind the Ted Constant Center. During the parade the judges will select the 12 best parade floats to line-up on Bluestone Avenue across from the Football Stadium. One of those 12 floats will be selected as the overall parade winner. The winner will be announced at half-time during the football game.
All parade floats will be judged on the following criteria:
Originality of theme and float
Incorporating the Homecoming Theme
Quality of Construction/Special Effects
Enthusiasm of people on and around the float
Overall Impression of the float
Parade Parking:
Spectators and participants not directly involved with the parade are encouraged to park in the following Parking Garages:
B - Located at the corner of 43rd and Bluestone (Closest to Parade Line-Up and Start area)
C - Located at the corner of 43rd and Hampton Blvd.
D - Located at the corner of 45th and Hampton Blvd.
Parking for Large Vehicles - All large vehicles (Such as buses) dropping off parade participants on Elkhorn Avenue must move their vehicle to Lot 43 (Located at the corner of 43rd and Powhatan Avenue) after dropping off the participants. Parade Line-Up/Start Time Information:
Lining up for the parade will begin starting 8:30 AM on Elkhorn Avenue. Please note that all vehicles must enter Elkhorn Avenue from 43rd street since Elkhorn Avenue will become a one-way street for the parade. Parade will begin promptly at 10 AM.
Parade Route: Parade Starts at 10:00 AM on Elkhorn Avenue and everyone is encouraged to watch all along 49th Street and Monarch Way. The parade route is as follows:

Turn right on to 49th Street
Follow 49th Street across Hampton Boulevard to Killam Avenue
Turn right on Killam Avenue and continue on to 47th Street

Enjoy food and fun before the Monarchs take on North Carolina Central. Spend time with fellow students, alumni, and family as we get ready for kick-off. This is the last home game of the season, so be sure to get a glimpse of the Football team as they make their final "Monarch March" into the stadium. The Monarch Marching band will also be performing.

Be a part of the 12th Monarch! Cheer on the Monarchs at they take on North Carolina Central for the last home game of the year. The Parade winners, Most Spirited Student Organization award winner and the Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at half-time. Please note tickets are required for this event.
