NORFOLK, Va. -- The Lady Monarchs allowed just one goal on Sunday, marking the 17th time in the last 18 regular season games that ODU held an opponent to one or fewer at the ODU Soccer Stadium, but still were defeated by the George Mason Patriots (13-4-2, 5-3-2), 1-0. The loss eliminates the Lady Monarchs from CAA Tournament contention with one game left to play in the regular season.

The Patriots came out on fire, putting four shots on frame in the first ten minutes. The first three were turned away by ODU's rookie goalkeeper Bri Alvarado, but the fourth, coming in the ninth minute of play, would put Mason on top. Senior midfielder Sasha Vido sent a low pass from midfield through the ODU defense to the feet of rookie forward Tiana Kallenberger. Kallenberger beat Alvarado off the dribble on the right side and sent in a shot for the score.

After the first ten minutes, ODU outshot George Mason 17-8, including several narrow misses. Both teams had a pair of shots on goal knocked away by defenders on the goal line in the game.

Senior defender Brittney Kortz led the way for Old Dominion, turning away an open shot from George Mason in the first half and playing the full ninety minutes in the back. Fellow senior Samantha Brennan also stepped up in a big way, as ODU went to a two-back formation in the late stages.

ODU's Kelsey Williams and Alyssa Pietrobono each had a good look with the goalkeeper on the ground, but both shots were turned away by George Mason defenders. Rookie Aubrie Ewell had three shots to lead the way for ODU.

The Patriots were led by Kallenberger, who took six shots, all on frame, in the game with the game winning goal. Omolyn Davis also had two shots with on on-goal. Rookie goalkeeper Katie Frey made four saves and earned her seventh shutout of the season.

Old Dominion will conclude the 2009 season with a game against William & Mary on Saturday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. Senior Day at the ODU Soccer Stadium will begin immediately preceding the match.
