BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Lady Monarch women's tennis player Nadine Fahoum continued to roll at the 2009 ITA/Wilson Women's Atlantic Regional Championships today, with a pair of victories to advance to the finals on Monday. The ODU junior won two matches on Saturday to advance and play UVa's Erin Vierra in tomorrow's final. She and teammate Joanna Dobrowolska also played their way into the Doubles semifinal set for Monday morning.
Fahoum, ranked 116th in the nation had her first match at 11:30 a.m., against VCU's Josefin Hjerquist in the quarterfinals. Hjerquist stretched the first set to a tiebreak, but Fahoum won and then put her away in the second. The Lady Monarch won 7-6 (2), 6-3 to advance to the semifinals.
In the semi's, Fahoum was up against second seeded Lindsey Hardenbergh from the University of Virginia at 3:00 p.m. Fahoum won in straight sets again, this time by a final of 6-3, 6-2.
Vierra defeated Richmond's 9-16 seeded Erin Clark in the quarters, 6-3, 6-0 before upsetting the fourth seeded Jenny Stevens, ranked 73rd in the country, by a final of 6-2, 6-3.
The matchup of Fahoum, the three seed, and Vierra, the six seed, will begin at Noon on Monday with the winner determining who will head to the ITA National Indoor Championships on November 5-8, held at Yale.
A bid to Nationals will also be on the line in doubles action as Dobrowolska and Fahoum defeated Kellner/Raich from Marshall by a final of 8-4 in the Round of 16 today and then followed that up with a 9-7 victory over the fifth seeded Virginia Tech tandem of Blakely/Johnson.
The ODU pair will face top seeded Cavalier team Stevens and Tomljanovic in the semifinals tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
Last season, Fahoum teamed with Charleen Haarhoff to reach the ITA Regional Finals in doubles action.
