BLACKSBURG, Va. -- ODU junior Nadine Fahoum is seeded third as the Lady Monarchs prepare to begin play at the Wilson/ITA Women's Atlantic Regional Championship held at Virginia Tech this weekend. Also playing for ODU in Blacksburg are Joanna Dobrowolska and Irina Dementyeva.
Fahoum, ranked 116th in the nation, will start play Friday afternoon against Richmond's Helen Cunningham. Fahoum is coming off a trip to the ITA All-American Championships in California where she defeated a pair of nationally ranked opponents, including one player ranked in the Top 50. Her first match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Joanna Dobrowolska will be the first ODU player on the singles court tomorrow, as she has the difficult task of facing Marshall's 36th ranked Michaela Kissell at 11:30 a.m. Kissell is the top seed at the Regional. Irina Dementyeva will play in the same bracket of the draw, facing Pittsburgh's Elizabeth Adams at 1:30 p.m.
Dobrowolska will likely go straight to her tough singles match immediately after she pairs with Fahoum in doubles play at 9:00 a.m. The ODU tandem are seeded fourth in the tournament and will face Pittsburgh's Adams/Benic in the first round Friday morning.
The singles and doubles winner of the ITA Regional Tournament will advance to the ITA National Indoor Tournament later this fall.
