ODU Defeats JMU In double OT On Smith's Goal

HARRISONBURG, VA--Old Dominion University freshman forward Yannick Smith's (Hillsborough, NJ.) goal two minutes into the second overtime period lifted the Monarchs to a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association win over James Madison Wednesday night.

After battling each other for over 102 minutes, Bobby Foglesong hit Smith from about 17 yards out, then Smith raced aheadof two defenders and fired the game winner from about ten yards.

The Monarchs are now 8-3-2 overall, and 3-2-2 in the CAA, while JMU drops to 7-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the CAA. ODU outshot the Dukes, 9-3 and Evan Newton with the help of the ODU defense picked up his seventh shutout of the year. He had one save on the night, while JMU's goalkeeper Ken Manahan had two saves.

Smith now has three goals on the season, while Bobby Fogelsong (Fredericksburg, VA.) has three assists.

Smith leads ODU in scoring with ten points on three goals, and four assists. Newtonnow has a 0.66 goals against average after his second straight shutout.

The Monarchs hit the road again this weekend when they travel to Boston to take on Northeastern Saturday evening at 6 p.m.
