NORFOLK, Va. -- ODU senior golfer Eric Onesi (Bear, Del.) won the Joe Agee Invitational in a field of over 60 golfers this weekend, leading the Monarchs to a second place finish as a team.
In winning the tournament, Onesi was named CAA co-Player of the Week and Monarchof the Week. He shares the CAA weekely award with VCU's Lanto Griffin.
Onesi finished the weekend with a 74-67 for a total score of 141 strokes, beating William & Mary's Brandon Parker by one stroke for the individual championship. Onesi was in a tie for 15th after the first round and climbed the leader board in the final round with his -1 performance.
Onesi led the way for the Monarchs, who finished with a 294-286 tournament, good for a 580 stroke second place performance. The Old Dominion quartet finished just two strikes behind Delaware for second place at the Joe Agee Invitational.
The 2008-09 team MVP earned a trip to the NCAA South Central Regional last season and finished second at the CAA Championships. The Monarchs will play at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate, Oct. 19 and 20 in Georgia this weekend before hosting the ODU Seascape Invitational in Kitty Hawk, N.C. the following week.
