Joseph's Two Goals Lift Monarchs Over Furman, 2-1

CHARLESTON, SC--Old Dominion University senior midfielder Nane Joseph (Yaounde, Cameron) scored two second half goals on penalty kicks to lead the Monarchs (2-0) to a 2-1 victory over Furman in the first round of the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic at the College of Charleston.

Furman took the early lead in the first half when Fabien Vorbe scored off a steal by Debola OgunseyeIn the first five minutes of the match.

With a little more than 28 minutes remaining Joseph was fouled in the box and awarded a penalty kickWhich he converted to tie the match. With 12:34 remaining in the game, he was fouled again and promptly scored to give the Monarchs the lead.

The Monarchs outshot the Paladins, 19-7 on the night. ODU Junior goalkeeper Evan Newton (Virginia Beach, VA.) had two saves, while Furman's Alec had three.

ODU will play the College of Charleston on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
