NORFOLK, Va. -- This week's Monarch Player of the Week comes from the field hockey turf as senior midfielder Katie Ueberroth posted a career best weekend. Ueberroth scored all three Lady Monarch goals leading ODU past 10th ranked Duke on the road.
Her first career hat trick came at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium in North Carolina as the Lady Monarchs faced off against No. 10 Duke. She scored her first just two minutes into the game off an assist from classmate Kathleen Shea to give the Lady Monarchs an early lead. Following a Duke score in the first half, Ueberroth gave Old Dominion the lead again in the second half off a pass from Alyschia Conn.
Duke would tie the game again, though, and send it into overtime, setting up Ueberroth's hat trick. In the 78th minute of play, Ueberroth blasted an unassisted score past the Blue Devil keeper for the win.
She led the team in shots in the game and bested her career-high goals scored by one. The stellar game earned her Co-CAA Player of the Week honors, sharing the award with Delaware's Missy Woodie.
Ueberroth and the 15th ranked Lady Monarch field hockey team will return home this weekend to begin CAA play. ODU will play Northeastern on September 25 at 5:00 p.m. and will also host Boston University in non-conference action Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m.
