NORFOLK, VA--Freshman Chris Harmon (Downington, PA.). and senior Nane Joseph each scored second half goals to lead the Monarchs (5-1) of Old Dominion to a 2-1 victory Friday night over Penn State(4-2).
A crowd of 1,338 was on hand tonight to watch ODU win their third straight game.
It also gave ODU head coach Alan Dawson the victory over his former high school coach in Ireland, in Penn State's Barry Gorman.
Five minutes into the second half, Harmon, scored in heavy traffic on assists from Bobby Fogelsong (Fredericksburg, VA.) and Yannick Smith (Hillsborough, NJ.). ODU's second goal came 13 minutes later, after a foul in the box senior Nane Joseph (Cameroon) scored on a penalty kick to give ODU a 2-0.
For Joseph, it was his third goal of the year, all on penalty kicks. He is a perfectthree-for-three.
PSU came back five minutes later to make it, 2-1 on a penalty kick by Matheus Braga.
ODU and PSU both had 11 shots, while the Nittany Lions had six shots on goal to ODU's five. ODU's Evan Newton came up with four saves. Penn State Used two keepers. Starter Warren Gross left the game after 27 minutes with an injury. Bryan Heffner got two saves.
Matheus Braga led Penn State with five shots and three were on goal, followed byDrew Cost with three overall shots and two on goal. Bobby Foglesong took threeshots for ODU, while Joseph and Harmon took two each.
The win evens the series a two wins each for both teams.
The Monarchs return to action next Friday when they host Delaware in their CAA opener. Game time is 7 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
