Lady Monarchs Host a Pair This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. -- Friday night, the Lady Monarchs women's soccer team returns home to host Radford University (3-4) at 6:00 p.m. as the front end of a doubleheader. The second game will feature the ODU men's team hosting Penn State. The Old Dominion women will also face off against Loyola University (Md.) on Sunday, at 1:00 pm.

ODU has started the season 3-4 overall and has won both games at home so far this season. Leading the way offensively has been freshman Ashlee Coutu. The rookie from Lebanon, Conn. has factored into each of the seven Lady Monarch goals this season, with either an assist or the goal.

Sophomore Victoria Johnson (Norfolk, Va.) has five points including her 10th career goal and a team-leading three assists. Defensively, seniors Brittney Kortz (Yorktown, Va.), Samantha Brennan (Newport News, Va.) and Saratu Dodo (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) have been anchoring a stingy back with sophomores Lisa Bernardini (Langhorne, Pa.) and Rachael Carroll (Worthington, Ohio).

In goal, Bri Alvarado has started five games posting a 0.80 goals against average with a .800 save percentage. She has allowed four goals and saved 16 shots on-net. Rookie Laura Bush has also logged 180 minutes in net, allowing four goals and saving eight.

The Radford team has scored 11 goals this season, with four different players scoring two apiece. Leading the way is Mary Wiley, with two goals and an assist for five total points. Lisa Lubke has played all but one half in goal, posting a 1.36 GAA. The Highlanders are coming off a pair of one goal losses at Longwood and against American University.

On Sunday, ODU will face a Loyola University program coming off a pair of big losses at the VCU Tournament, dropping a 3-0 decision to VCU and a 5-0 setback to Eastern Michigan. Loyola has a 3-4-1 record overall and is being led offensively by Christina Gomez with three goals and Theresa Ferraina with two goals and two assists. Brittany Henderson has started seven games, making 27 saves and posting a 1.54 goals against average.

Kick off on Friday night is 6:00 pm. The men's game is scheduled for 8:00 pm tentatively and will begin thirty minutes following the first game. Live stats will be available at www.odusports.com as well as live streaming video through Monarchs All-Access.
