Women's Soccer Travels to Liberty and ECU This Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion Lady Monarchs (2-3) are back on the road this weekend for a pair, facing off against Liberty on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and ECU on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. ODU will be playing for its first win on the road this season after dropping a pair last weekend at the Sun Devil Desert Classic in Arizona.

Against Liberty, ODU has posted four straight wins against Liberty dating back to 2005. The Lady Monarchs lead the all-time series 4-0 and have outscored the Flames 13-1 in the contests. The Lady Flames are 1-2 on the season so far, falling to James Madison and Virginia, each at least receiving votes in the national poll, and defeating East Tennessee State.

Leading the way for Liberty so far are Silvia Betancourt and Madison Short, each with one goal apiece. Karen Blocker has played all 270 minutes in goal, saving 23 but allowing nine goals for a 3.00 goals against average.

In Sunday's game, the Lady Monarchs will look to improve on its lead in the all-time series, currently at 8-3. The Pirates won the last matchup, however, with a 1-0 home win in 2008. ECU jumped to a quick 3-0 start this season, before falling to #17 Wake Forest last weekend. They will play NC State on Friday night.

East Carolina has found scoring all over the field, with four different players scoring five points to lead the way so far. Amanda Malkiewicz, Bailey Wilcox and Kimmy Cummings each have scored two goals and an assist while Rachel Wechsler has one goal and three assists.

The Lady Monarchs are still being led by rookie forward Bri Alvarado has started three games, allowing three goals while Laura Bush has three appearances, two starts and has also allowed just three goals.

Kick-off against the Lady Flames Friday night will be 6:00 pm. The game Sunday against ECU will begin at 2:00 pm. Stay tuned to odusports.com for recaps of the weekend's action.
