Norfolk, Va. - Head women's lacrosse coach Sue Stahl has announced the addition of seven standout student-athletes to Old Dominion's recruiting class. The seven recruits, representing four different states, will join the Lady Monarchs for the upcoming 2010 season.

Alexandra Burns (Blue Bell, Pa) was a member of the Archbishop Carroll High School Philadelphia Catholic League Championship Team and was also an Academic All-American. The midfielder/defender possesses great strength and quick footwork according to Stahl.

"Alex has a wonderful ability to anticipate each play and is very aggressive in the eight-meter arc," said Stahl. "Alex's strength and speed will prove to be a great addition to the ODU team defensive unit."

Carolyn Burns (Blue Bell, Pa.) was named Second Team All-Catholic League, Academic All-American and was a member of the Archbishop Carroll High School Philadelphia Catholic League Championship Team.

"Carolyn is a team leader with a great work ethic," explained Stahl. "Her speed and quickness in the midfield will be a great addition to the ODU squad. Carolyn is very aggressive on both ends of the field."

Jordynn Collins (Monrovia, Md.) is a former and future teammate of current ODU standout, Hannah McBee. While at Urbana High School, Collins was a member of the MVAL Chesapeake Conference Team and was a Scholar Athlete.

"Jordynn will be a strong addition to the 2010 squad," said Stahl. "As an attack/midfielder, Jordynn demonstrates impressive one-on-one moves on attack and true speed in the midfield. Her competitive nature is obvious throughout each game."

Shelby Davis (Horseheads, N.Y.) led her Horseheads High School team in points and groundballs throughout her career. Davis was named Athlete of the Year and was a member of the NYS Section IV First Team last season.

"Shelby should be an impact player on the squad," said Stahl. "She is a true athlete with excellent game sense on the field. Her aggressive nature, strong shot, and overall hustle will be a welcome addition. Shelby is a solid midfielder who plays a physical game, always wanting the ball."

Olivia Linehan (Towson, Md.) has excelled both on the field and in the classroom at Loch Raven High School. She is a four-year Honor Roll student and is a member of the National Honor Society for Math, Foreign Language and Music. As a midfielder/defender, Linehan is very agile and quick.

"Her speed and ability to go full field will be an asset to the defensive unit," explained Stahl. "Olivia hustles after every ball, making her an effective low defender and a threat to her opponents."

Maura Mahoney (Bel Air, Md.) joins the Lady Monarchs after leading her Bel Air High School team in scoring in 2009. She was also a member of the 2009 NEMS Club Team and a four-year Honor Roll Student.

"Maura is a midfielder/attacker with tremendous speed and endurance," said Stahl. "Her work ethic makes her a true competitor on the field and she is a constant offensive threat. Her determination and willingness to work will be apparent on the field and in the classroom."

Meredith Rogers (Ashburn, Va.) comes to ODU after leading her Broad Run High School team in scoring all four years. Rogers currently holds the Broad Run overall scoring record. Additionally, Rogers earned First Team All-District and First Team All-Regional Selections this past season.

"Meredith is a very aggressive player and a true competitor," said Stahl. "Her strength and speed as an attacker enables her to dominate any opponents within the eight-meter arc. Meredith's determination to be successful on and off the field will be a very positive addition to our team.

ODU ended the 2009 season with an 11-5 overall record. The Lady Monarchs also won three of the four major Colonial Athletic Association awards. Kelly Kimener won the league's Player of the Year honors, while Stahl garnered Coach of the Year for the fifth time in her career. Redshirt freshman Sarah Geary was named the CAA Rookie of the Year. ODU was ranked as high as No. 17 during the 2009 season.
