NORFOLK, Va. -- Freshman Ashlee Coutu (Lebanon, Conn.) was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Rookie of the Week today, in the first release of the season. Coutu scored a pair of gamewinners for the Lady Monarchs this weekend, leading ODU past George Washington and High Point University.
Coutu shares the honor with Northeastern rookie Devin Petta.
The true freshman scored her first career goal on Friday, against GW, on a header in the box. The eventual gamewinner in a 2-0 contest came off assists inside from sophomore Victoria Johnson and freshman Aubrie Ewell. Coutu knocked the header by the keeper for the score. Later in the game, Coutu notched her first career assist after receiving a pass from Johnson at the top of the box, turned and left it for sophomore Jocelyn Weidner, who knocked it in for the score.
On Sunday, Coutu scored the only goal of a 1-0 shutout against High Point. This time, she found herself on the far post after a great cross from Johnson. Unmarked, she poked it in for the score.
Coutu has started all three games so far in her career and leads Old Dominion in scoring with five points. She and the rest of the Lady Monarchs head to Arizona this weekend for the Sun Devil Desert Classic. The team will face off against the Sun Devils of Arizona State University (2-1) on Friday at 10:00 pm EST and then against the Wildcats of the University of Arizona (0-2-1) at 2:00 pm EST on Sunday.
