NORFOLK, Va. -- ODU women's soccer (0-1) hosts a pair of games in its home opener this weekend, starting with a Friday night tilt against George Washington University (1-0) at 7:00 pm followed by a Sunday afternoon game against High Point University (0-2) at 1:00 pm.
The Lady Monarchs are looking for their first win of the season after opening with a 3-0 setback to NC State. Rookie forward Aubrie Ewell led the attack with a pair of solid shots, including one that glanced off the right post.
The game against George Washington is a return trip from a home and home series where the Lady Monarchs stunned the Colonials with a buzzer beater last season. With time expiring in the first overtime period, senior Elizabeth Brewster sent a hard drive to the back of the net for the win.
The Colonials jumped to a 1-0 start this year with a 2-1 victory over the Towson Tigers. GWU was led by senior Brittany Eger, who scored two goals on 5 shots. Jillian Morgan, Sierra Smidinger and Dara Rosen all had assists in the game. Kick-off against GWU will be at 7:00 pm at the ODU Soccer Stadium.
On Sunday, the Lady Monarchs will host High Point University (0-2) at 1:00 pm. The Panthers dropped a pair of games to ACC opponents last week, falling 7-0 to Wake Forest and 2-0 to Virginia Tech. They were outshot 62-3 on the weekend with the three shots coming from Laura Shupe and Laura Eldridge. Marisa Abbott endured all 180 minutes in goal, making 15 saves in net for HPU.
ODU defeated High Point last season, 3-0, in the first all-time matchup. Senior Brittney Kortz notched an assist in the game while sophomore Jocelyn Weidner and Victoria Johnson scored their first career points in the game. Junior Ashley Kukura also had an assist in the game.
Live stats will be available through www.odusports.com for both games.
