Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion Field Hockey will play its annual alumni game Saturday at 1 p.m. The 2009 Lady Monarchs will welcome back various standouts from past years as the squads will compete in a game at the Powhatan Sports Complex.
ODU, which was picked to win the 2009 CAA field hockey title in a vote of the league's nine head coaches earlier this week, returns 10 starters from last years team.
The 2008 team finished 6-2 in CAA play and advanced to the CAA Tournament championship game.
The Lady Monarchs are led by senior midfielder Kathleen Shea, who finished the 2008 season with five goals and was a first-team all CAA selection. Goalkeeper Kelly Driscoll returns for her senior season after leading the CAA with 7.3 saves per game and posting four shutouts a year ago. Loran Hatch will look to build off a solid sophomore season where she scored five goals.
After the alumni game, ODU will begin the season with a four-game home stand. The first contest of the season will be held at the Powhatan Sports Complex against Penn State on August 28.
