NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion University athletic director Jim Jarrett and Cox Communications senior vice president and general manager Gary McCollum announced today that the University's historic opening football game on Sept. 5 against Chowan University will be produced and aired live by Cox.
Cox Communications will produce the game which will air live locally in Hampton Roads on Cox 11 at 6 p.m., in addition to being carried live on the Cox system in Northern Virginia and Roanoke, and on The Comcast Network which includes the Richmond market.
"The excitement around our football program has been incredible and televising this first contest will provide an opportunity for everyone to see the game, as well as provide great exposure for our University and young football program throughout the state and region," says Jarrett.
The demand for football season tickets has exceeded the availability of seats at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium. All seven home games this year are expected to be sellouts in the 19,782 -seat facility
Gary McCollum, senior vice president and general manager of Cox, said, "We're thrilled to spotlight ODU's return to the gridiron while at the same time giving cable customers more local sports programming. With the demand for tickets exceeding ticket supplies, we expect many will tune-in to root for the Monarchs at the new Foreman Field."
The talent for the broadcast includes John Castleberry, former long-time ODU men's basketball play by play radio announcer, who has anchored numerous televised football games for Comcast, as well as Cox.
