Aug. 4, 2009

NORFOLK, Va. -- A talented mix of veteran and young announcers will join radio play by play voice Ted Alexander to bring the action and color of the inaugural 2009 Old Dominion University football season to the fans, as announced today by athletic director Jim Jarrett and ODU Sports Properties, the marketing and multi-media rights holder for the athletic program.

The game day broadcasts, which will air on WXEZ 94.1 FM in Hampton Roads, will include a one hour pre-game show, the game broadcast and a 30-minute post game show. Rick Kiefner, ODU's basketball radio analyst since 1970, will anchor the pre-game show live from the Charles Barker Infiniti Field Pass Terrace. Kiefner's football experience includes serving as a co-host for a radio college football scoreboard show in Hampton Roads, as well as a color analyst for the Oyster Bowl football games played until 1995 at Foreman Field. The pre-game show will include interviews with ODU Head Coach Bobby Wilder, players and visiting coaches.

Assisting Alexander as color analyst will be Andy Mashaw, whose broadcast experience includes serving as the play by play and radio voice for the former Norfolk Nighthawks arena football team , high school football and a news stint with WTKR TV in Norfolk. A graduate of ODU, Andy also served as a play by play and color analyst for WODU radio as an undergraduate student, covering ODU men's and women's basketball.

Providing sideline commentary is Demetrius Means, a 12-year veteran of sports broadcasting in the Northern Neck of Virginia on WKWI and WINDY 105 and WESR of the Eastern Shore. Means has announced high school football and basketball games as well as the Deltaville Deltas semi-pro baseball games. He has also hosted local call-in sports shows in the Northern Neck and was inducted into the Northern Neck Sports Wall of Fame in 2008.

"We have put together a great team for the broadcasts," says Brock Petrie, multimedia rights manager for CBS Collegiate Sports Marketing. " Beginning with the pre-game show, through the post-game wrap up, ODU fans can expect to be entertained and informed of all the aspects surrounding the football games from announcers that are passionate and dedicated to their role in the broadcasts."
