Eric Onesi Named First Team All-State

NORFOLK, VA.-- Old Dominion University's junior golfer Eric Onesi (Bear, DE.)has been named to the first team All-State Golf squad by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association.

The University of Virginia's head men's golf coach Bowen Sargent wasnamed Coach of the Year. Joining Onesi on the firstt eam All-State squadare: Lanto Griffin and Rafael Campos (VCU), Drew Weaver (Virginia Tech), and Will Collins (UVA).

ODU's junior Eric Onesi (Bear, DE.) compiled a 72.9 stroke average. He earned an at-large bid to the NCAA South Central Regional. An All-CAA selection, Onesi had three top ten finishes, including second place at the CAA Championships. Onesi finished second at last year's Eastern Amateur.

Sargent's Cavaliers received an NCAA bid each of the past two years. Virginia ranked 51st by Golfstat and 52nd by Golfweek.

Virginia Tech senior Drew Weaver (High Point, NC.) earned Ping All-American third team honors, as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He also earned first team All-ACC honors. Weaver compiled a 71.7 stroke average and finished in the top ten nine times, including second place finishes at Pinehurst and Furman. Weaver tied for seventh at the ACC Golf Championships and 12th at the NCAA Austin Regional.

VCU Junior Lanto Griffin (Blacksburg, VA.), the CAA Golfer of the Year completed the season with a 72.69 stroke average and tied for third at the CAA Championships as VCU won the team title, and advanced to the NCAA Northeast Regional. Griffin had five top ten finishes this season. His teammate and fellow first team All-CAA selection Rafael Campos (Guaynabo, PR.)compiled a 73.57 stroke average and had four top ten finishes, including a first at the Landfall Tradition.

Virginia sophomore Will Collins (Salisbury, NC.) led the Cavaliers with a 72.76 stroke average and ranked tenth in the ACC in scoring. He also shot 66 in the second round of the ACC Championships to produce the team's low single-round score of the year.

The second team All-State consisted of Kyle Stough and Ben Kohles of Virginia, Marshall Bailey of Virginia Tech, Tim Driver and Fielding Brewbaker of James Madison.
