Monarch Sailors In Sixth At ICSA National Championship

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The ODU sailing team is in sixth place after day one of the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Co-Ed National Championship, with 132 total points. The fleet sailed four complete sets on the first day, eight races in both A division and B division. Junior skipper Kyle Rogachenko led the Monarchs with senior crew Jaclyn Finney to a third place effort in A division. Sailing continues on Tuesday and Wednesday for the national championship.

In A division, Rogachenko and Finney totaled 62 points in eight completed races for third place. The Monarch tandem scored a win and a second place finish, and were among the top ten finishers in five of the eight races.

Senior skipper Michael Brown sailed in B division with senior crew Alissa Ayres and junior crew Michael Komar. The trio managed a sixth place effort on day one, with 70 total points. Brown steered ODU to one second place finish and six top ten efforts in the eight completed races.

Together, ODU has 132 points and sits in sixth place headed into day two. St. Mary's College (49 pts) holds a commanding lead on the rest of the fleet, with just 61 points after day one racing.

The championship will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the race committee will get as many as 18 races in for each division. Stay tuned to odusports.com for daily recaps or click here for live stats of the event.
