COLLEGE STATION, Tex. -- Senior Alexandr Seleznev will kick off the 2009 NCAA Tennis Championship for Old Dominion today at 5:00 pm in singles action. Tomorrow, he will be joined by teammate Tobias Fanselow in doubles action while Nadine Fahoum and Charleen Haarhoff will also play in doubles for the Lady Monarchs. Seleznev will face Texas A&M's Conor Pollock, playing on his home court. Pollock is one of the eight seeded players from 9-16, and ranks 17th nationally. The match will be a test for the Monarch senior and 2009 CAA Player of the Year. He posted a 29-9 record at No. 1 singles this season, including a 22-5 mark in dual compeition. He has won 15 of his last 17 matches, including an upset of 12th ranked Sanam Singh of the University of Virginia.
Tobias Fanselow will join Seleznev on the court tomorrow for doubles action. The ODU tandem will face California's Geoff Chizevar and Pedro Zerbini, ranked 19th in the country. Seleznev and Fanselow have only lost six doubles matches all year and ranked the top team in the CAA this season. They finished with a 21-6 mark, ranked 33rd overall.
The women's team will also take the court tomorrow as senior Charleen Haarhoff will play with sophomore Nadine Fahoum against Duke's 22nd ranked doubles tandem. The ODU pair went 22-7 in doubles action this year and earned a trip to the ITA East Regional Championship this fall. They were named First Team All-CAA and both also were named to the All-CAA Singles team.
