RICHMOND, VA--Old Dominion University (19-22/11-8)freshman pitcher Brett Harris (Chesapeake, VA.-Hickory) tossed his CAA leading fifth complete game to lead the Monarchs to a 2-1 victory over VCU (19-21/7-12) Friday evening.
In the sixth with two out, Gerard Hall on second, and Josh Wright on first, both scored on a VCU error in the outfield to take a 2-1 lead.
VCU scored first inning when Andrew Dimino scored from third with the bases loaded on a double play ball.
The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but Harris then got a popout followed by a double play, ODU's third of the night to end the game.
Harris fanned five, walked three and scattered seven hits to up his record to 6-3 with a 4.07 ERA. VCU's Ian Thomas fanned five, walked one and gave up six hits.
Max Most and Gerard Hall led ODU with two hits each, while Joe Van meter and Justin Wright both
had two hits for the Rams. Game two of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Diamond.
