Lady Monarchs Fall At William & Mary, Snapping Winning Streak

Williamsburg, Va. – The 50th ranked Old Dominion University women’s tennis team had its four-match win streak snapped on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to conference rival William & Mary, ranked No. 55 nationally.  The Tribe improved to 8-10 overall, while the Lady Monarchs fell to 18-5, 2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

 

The Lady Monarchs jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point behind a great effort from Nadine Fahoum and Margarita Spicin at No. 1.  The ODU pair battled back-and-forth with the 48th ranked Tribe duo of Ragini Acharya and Katarina Zoricic before pulling out their fourth match point for the 9-7 win.

 

In singles action, the Lady Monarchs struggled to win just one out of the six matches.  Irina Dementyeva won in straight sets at No. 5 over Barbara Zidek, 6-4, 6-3.
