NORFOLK-- Justin Christian scored twice to lead The Norfolk Tides (Baltimore Orioles AAA affiliate) to a 2-0 win over Old Dominion Tuesday night at HarborPark in the annual Bank of the Commonwealth Classic. ODU sophomore catcher EdgarHernandez got the Monarchs lone hit in the in the third inning.
Also reaching base for ODU was shortstop Gerard Hall who walked inthe first andthen stole second. Freshman Kenny Stoneback reached in the seventh inning whenhe was hit by the Tides Jim Miller.
Christian singled in the first and then stole second base. He scored on an RBIgroundout by Matt Wieters. In the seventh inning, Christian led off with a single,and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Reimold.
Two Monarch pitchers threw tonight. Corey Toth pitched one inning with one hitand one walk and no runs allowed, while Chris Boggs pitched one innning with onerun allowed, two walks and one strikeout.
The Monarchs return to action this weekend in Atlanta with a three-game CAA seriesat Georgia State.
