Seleznev, Fanselow Earn Trip to 2009 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships

NORFOLK, Va. -- The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee has selected the 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams that will compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships, including a pair for Old Dominion. CAA Player of the Year Aleksandr Seleznev (Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic) and doubles partner Tobias Fanselow (Essen, Germany) qualified for the national tournament, and Seleznev earned the CAA's automatic bid in both singles and doubles for the 2009 Championships. Joining him on the court for doubles action will be teammate Tobias Fanselow.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 20-25 at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 15-19). Texas A&M University, College Station will serve as host.

All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.

Seleznev ranks in the Top 90 in singles action and was named the 2009 CAA Player of the Year earlier this month. He has posted a 29-9 record at No. 1 singles this season, including a 22-5 mark in dual match competition. He has won 15 of his last 17 matches, including an upset of 12th ranked Sanam Singh of UVa.

The ODU senior also has teamed with Fanselow in doubles this season, for a 21-6 mark. The pair was named First Team All-CAA and won eight straight to close out the regular season. Currently, the ODU tandem is ranked 33rd in the country.
