Navy Spring Women's USNA March 14-15
FINAL RESULTS
REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
Saturday began with no wind and racing was delayed for over an hour.Eventually, a 3-5 knot Easterly filled in and racing began off Triton Point. Therewas some current, which played a factor in the light breeze which remained mostlysteady throughout the early races. After four races per division, the breeze beganto lighten further and the fleet was sent in for lunch at 1300. Another wind delayensued until a 3-5 knot Southwesterly filled in and three more races per divisionwere completed to make 7 for the day. An 8th race was started and then abandonedwhen the wind totally died and the fleet was sent in to enjoy a cookout sponsoredby the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron. The afternoon breeze proved to be muchpuffier and shiftier, making for challenging racing. One protest was heard,resulting in one DSQ. A division sailed in 420s all day, while B was in FJs. Thedivisions will switch fleets for the start of racing tomorrow. Special thanks toLT Ted Huebner and his team of Midshipmen for getting off 7 quality racing underchallenging conditions, Herb Larabee and Dick Morin for serving as ProtestCommittee, and Joan Morin and her NASS volunteers for a great dinner.
On Sunday, There was a little bit of breeze in the morning and the fleet went outfor about a half an hour before coming back in. We waited on shore until 1330 whenracing was abandoned for the day. Congratulations to the College of Charleston forwinning the 2009 Navy Spring omen's Intersectional.
