McAloose And Boggs Lead ODU Over Liberty, 7-2

LYNCHBURG, VA-- Junior thirdbaseman Jake McAloose (Virginia Beach, Va.) slammed a three-run homer in the fifth inning, and Chris Boggs picked up his fourth win to lead the Monarchs of Old Dominion to a 7-2 victory over the Flames of Liberty Tuesday afternoon. ODU is now 12-19 and Liberty falls to 23-12.

The Monarchs got solid pitching from junior righthander Chris Boggs (Manassas, VA.) who pitched 8.2 innings, scattering 11 hits, but walking only one and fanning seven. He is now 4-0 on the season. Senior lefthander Matt Walls (Falls Church, Va.) got the final out in the ninth.

ODU took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Chris Buss (Rosemount, MN.) came home on a groundoutBy Josh Wright. In the fifth with Gerard Hall and Edgar Hernandez aboard, McAloose slammed his homer over the left centerfield fence. Max Most singled home Buss in the eighth inning and DonnieCorsner singled home McAloose in the ninth.

Donnie Corsner (Virginia Beach, VA. )led the Monarchs with four hits on the day and he scored twice. McAloose had three hits and also scored twice. Junior shortstop Gerard Hall (Washington, DC.) andFreshman designated hitter Brett Harris (Chesapeake, Va. )added two hits each on the day.

Liberty was led by Trey Wimmer and P.J. Jimenez with two hits each. Matt Williams and Cody BrownEach knocked in a run. Brown's was a solo homer in the seventh inning.

Jake McAloose is now hitting .380 for the Monarchs with four homers, while Donnie Corsner leads the team with 26 RBI along with five homers. Chris Boggs is now 4-0 with a 3.00 ERA.

ODU sweeps the two-game series with Liberty, having beaten them at ODU on March 31st.The Monarchs travel to Elon for a 5 p.m. contest Wednesday night.
